The “Partenariat pour le Coton” initiative aims to help African countries move up the cotton value chain and play a bigger role in transforming cotton into textiles and clothing. A recent study on the cotton sector in the Cotton4+ countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Côte d'Ivoire) reveals that the textile and garment manufacturing sector is at a nascent stage in some of these countries. To generate job opportunities for thousands of young workers, these countries would benefit from being integrated to a much greater extent into international textile supply chains.
