World Trade Report 2025: Making trade and AI work together to the benefit of all
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming how goods and services are produced, exchanged and consumed, bringing the potential for a new era of growth. However, unequal access across the world to digital infrastructure, skills and capabilities, as well as the impact of AI on the labour market, could mean that benefits are unevenly distributed. This year's report explores the complex and fast-evolving relationship between AI and international trade and how this relationship can shape inclusive growth.
AI offers new opportunities to reduce trade costs, boost productivity and expand access to global markets but the design and implementation of trade and trade-related policies will strongly influence whether AI-enabled trade translates into inclusive growth. The WTO can play a central role in ensuring that AI supports broad-based growth by administering WTO rules, fostering dialogue, transparency and capacity-building, and deepening collaboration on AI and digital trade with other international organizations.
